The Moon Landing is likely to be false since the United States was motivated to beat the Soviet Union in the Space Race, as they have always been in competition since the Cold War. Being able to reach the Moon would add prestige to the United States Government as it would lead to world-wide acclaim and be an unforgettable historical moment that would always be praised. Furthermore, there is a famous 1962 speech by President John F. Kennedy saying that Landing on the moon would be ‘risky’ and ‘expensive’. This makes people question why would they risk people’s lives and waste money just to show off, especially since technology was not as advanced back then. In addition, people argue that landings had to be faked to fulfill JFK’s 1961 goal, "before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth." Also, a popular reason to faking the landing is to avoid embarrassment as it has previously had political opposition because NASA lost an entire crew in the fire during a ground test, leading to its upper management team being questioned by Senate and House of Representatives. Many conspiracists question the fact that there was no video broadcast during either the landing or takeoff because of technological limitations. So if they were able to reach the moon with technology, could they not fix there “technological limitations?” Another reason is about the Vietnam War. The American Patriot Friends Network stated in 2009 that the Moon Landings aided the United States government to distract public attention and media from the fact that there was the Vietnam War. Mysteriously the Moon landings suddenly ended around the same time that the United States ended its entanglement with the war. To add to the motives on why the Moon Landing was fake the photographic and film oddities on the moon landing have caused heavy speculation. For instance, many question why the quality of the photographs is implausibly high, Crosshairs are sometimes rotated or in the wrong place, or the fact that there are no stars shown in any of the photographs. There are many reason why theorists believe it is fake, and I believe they are correct.

Thanks very much for participating in our forum and for supporting the students.
This is a great site in general, and this comment in particular offers a very interesting take on the moon landing. It sounds like you're suggesting that the fact that the moon landing was very conveniently timed for the US (given the pressures we felt at the time, especially with regards to the Soviet Union) means it was faked. Does that mean all well-timed technological accomplishments are suspect? Also, I'm curious about how this conspiracy theory is understood by Gen Z students, who weren't around for the original event (unlike, for example, Pizzagate). Very interesting project overall. Well done!
